Local Workforce Training Grants

There are two options for workforce training grants available now – the Employee Development Fund from the North Central Texas Workforce Development Board (NCTWB) and the Skills Development Fund from the Texas Workforce Commission.

North Central Texas Workforce Development Funds – Employee Development Fund (EDF)

North Central Texas WorkForce has been providing workforce solutions to over 1.8 million employers and jobseekers in the North Central Texas region since 1996. Their primary goal is to help employers find the right employees to meet their business needs. With 15 workforce centers to serve businesses’ needs as well as on-line assistance, the NCTX Workforce we can find the right solution for you. North Central Texas WorkForce is also committed to preparing the workforce of tomorrow. Through partnerships with business, education and other community organizations, they are dedicated to leading the way to strengthen our local economy as well as to develop a quality workforce. This fund is readily accessible to upgrade skills of new employees.  The NCTWB is very interested in job retention and can move quickly to make this type of project happen. The employer may select the training provider and there is a sliding scale for employers to share in the cost of training. Participants must meet the following eligibility requirements
  1. Must be eligible for employment in the United States
  2. Must be 18 years of age or older
  3. Males must meet the Selective Service requirement

Training programs may also be administered through Collin County Community College District (Collin College). In addition to their faculty, Collin College also retains professionals from many fields to develop customized training to meet the needs of the company.  Collin College has received six grants of this type over the past 48 months for companies in their service area. Texas Workforce Commission – Skills Development Fund (SDF)

This is an innovative program created to assist Texas community and technical colleges in financing customized job training for local businesses. Collin College has received over $9-million in SDF training grants and has served more than 5,000 Collin County employees in 62 businesses and industries in the last six years. Natalie Greenwell, Collin College, coordinates the grant application.  It takes a longer lead time and more paperwork to apply for these grants.  The college is happy to assist in any way they can to expedite the process.
